LIHUE — The third stop in the Hawaii Triple Crown Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tour kicks off this Saturday in Lihue.
On April 19, Kauai High School will host the annual Jiu-Jitsu tournament, marking the fourth stop of its Hawaiian tour, which uses the Gi and No Gi format.
Sensei Romolo Barros, President of the Hawaii Federation of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, expressed his excitement about being on the Garden Isle and hopes to inspire the children and the community this weekend through the power of Jiu-Jitsu.
“I love Kauai,” said Barros, “We are so excited to be here this weekend. It’s always a pleasure when we are here. We have been doing our Tournaments for over 20 years in Hawaii, and we will be donating part of our proceeds to Project Hawaii Inc., a nonprofit that helps our houseless kids in our communities.”
“We want Kauai to know more about Jiu-Jitsu since it has exploded in popularity over the years. Jiu-jitsu has also been recognized as the most effective and practical martial art. However, some still do not understand the benefits that come with training in jiu-jitsu.”
Barros also emphasized the importance of safety and health benefits of Jiu-jitsu, along with the sense of team spirit and confidence it gives the students.
“The kids learn discipline, respect, confidence, perseverance, teamwork, anti-bullying, and learning. If you win or lose, you have to be humble and respectful,” noted Barros.” Safety is also our number one priority in our events. We just want the kids to have a positive experience competing.
“Jiu-Jitsu is a great discipline for mind and body and a great workout physically,” he shared.
Lastly, Barros says he believes we all can become better human beings, and the world will be a better place if we all learn the benefits that Jiu-Jitsu offers. He encourages everyone to live with Aloha every day.
“I really hope the Kauai community shows their Aloha and supports the kids this weekend. We welcome everyone to register and check all that jiu-jitsu has to offer,” he said.
Late registration for Saturday’s tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. The tournament begins soon after at 10:30 a.m. Athletes interested in further information can visit hfbjj.org or visit their Instagram page @hitriplecrownbjj.
